GPS-Planet carries the only four GPS solutions
currently available for the commercial truck driver including the
Garmin 465T,
Rand McNally Intelliroute
TND 500, Goodyear
GY500X, CoPilot
PC*Miler Truck GPS,
WorldNav Truck GPS
and CoPilot Truck Laptop
11 system.
All of these truck GPS units differ from
your average automobile GPS because of the truck-specific mapping data they
contain. As many as 700,000 miles of truck restricted roads
are featured in these units! That's a lot of road data. This
is important to remember because if you've ever used a car GPS, these units
will not calculate your truck route as quickly as a car GPS.
A car GPS doesn't have to look at all those restrictions to calculate a
route. So remember, truck GPS units will calculate your route a little slower
than a car GPS.
Another important thing to remember when
purchasing a truck GPS is that, just like a car GPS, the map data is not
always accurate. Truck GPS units are accurate most of the time, but
not all of the time. Sometimes you will have better local knowledge
of the route than the GPS will. The truck GPS manufacturers are trying to
provide reliable truck routes, and they are constantly updating the road
data.
Like any new electronic device, spend a little
time getting to know your GPS and learn how to use it properly. They're
not difficult to operate, but you should take the time to read the manual
so you know how to use it. Bottom line is that a truck GPS will
help you get to your destination. A truck GPS is just another tool
of the trade. Use it to help get you where you want to go.....and
above all drive safely and obey all road signs.
